Cherry

Cherry (Prunus serotina) also known as American cherry or black cherry is native to eastern North America, and is actually only distantly related to the sweet cherry, the kind that you make pies with, which is native to Europe and Asia. Cherry heartwood is a light pinkish brown when freshly cut, darkening to a medium reddish brown with time and upon exposure to light. Cherry is known as a premier furniture wood, its workability and beauty having made it a favorite of craftsmen and collectors for centuries.

Cherry has a hardness of 950 making it the softest wood that we offer. This relative softness helps protect very sharp knives. Think slicing rather than chopping.

As with all of our cutting boards, cherry is sustainably grown and harvested in the USA.
